Much Ado About Nothing was my second design for Arizona Repertory Theatre, and my first design for one of Shakespeare's works. Our production was set in Italy during the 1950's, a time period that Director David Morden felt highlighted the constraints and expectations of women in society. My sound design leaned heavily on post-war jazz, fitting the elegance and sophistication of the mainly upper-class characters. It was also the first straight-play to be performed on the newly renovated Craig T. Nelson Stage, and as such I got to experiment with a 15.1 surround system and PanLab integration. Key features of my design include two dances in acts two and five, as well as two songs that are sung by Balthasar in acts two and five.
A selection of production photos can be found below, as well as examples of my work, including my final design presentation, my cue sheet, and a YouTube link to the pre-show and intermission playlist.
